Horticulture Limes

Lime is applied to acid soils to raise the soil pH and add calcium. Soil pH is an important chemical property of the soil. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14 and is used to indicate the relative acidity or alkalinity of the soil. A pH less than 7 is acid, while that above 7 is alkaline. A pH of 7 indicates a neutral soil. The pH is important because it influences the availability of essential nutrients. Most horticultural crops will grow satisfactorily in soils having a pH between 6 (slightly acid) and 7.5 (slightly alkaline). Most soil nutrients are readily available in this pH range. Peel Landscape Depot has calcitic lime that adds calcium and raises the pH and dolomitic lime that adds both calcium and magnesium and raises pH. We also recognize that there are many people who like to add hydrated lime to their vegetable gardens and we carry that as well here at Peel Landscape Depot
